The Insurance Charites, which as been supporting insurance colleagues – working or retired, and their dependents, since 1902 – wants everyone in the sector to know they can lend a hand too.
Its Honorary President, Adrienne O’Sullivan, said: “Too often we hear from people who have faced an unexpected life event but, at the time, were unaware of the support we can provide. We want to prevent this situation.”
All this week, Catalyst Services UK has been doing its bit to support The Insurance Charities Awareness Week, which finishes today (Friday 23rd June, 2023).
Catalyst Managing Director Brad Jackson is the charity’s representative at the Insurance Institute of Manchester, which represents the insurances industry in the North West.
He said: “I know from my involvement and person experience that the charity does wonderful and essential work across the UK an Ireland, so we have been extremely happy to help.
“The money raised by companies like ours through charity events is important. But so is the work of dozens of volunteers who support the charity, including visiting people who need financial help, expert advice or emotional support.”
Catalyst teams had a Mexican themed lunch – not so much a Mexican standoff as a Mexican coming together – complete with some tasty, spicy food, during which a raffle raised money for the charity.
Meanwhile The Insurance Charities provided an online ‘Dementia Friends’ session through its partners at Alzheimer’s Society for insurance professionals to learn more about caring for people with the disease.
Brad Jackson said: “At Catalyst, caring about the thousands of insurance claims customers we help every year is an important part of our work. It ensures we deliver the best service, showing dignity and respect.
“I’m pleased that care also applies to supporting our own. The Insurance Charities helped 295 beneficiary cases in 2021-22, including individuals, couples and families. Issues it assisted with included dementia, domestic abuse, debt, mental illness, and physical disability.”
It is a charity that spent £1.3 million in 2022 on helping insurance professionals in the UK and Ireland – and is calling for the industry to unit amid cost of living challenges.
