Catalyst apprentice Benjamin achieves CII certification with distinction

Catalyst Apprentice Ben Thomas

Two years of diligent study and excellent workplace experience at Catalyst Services UK have resulted in Benjamin Thomas passing his Chartered Insurance Institute Certificate with top marks.

He achieved a distinction in his final assessment, in what was a significant milestone towards also passing his Level 3 Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship.

Since joining Catalyst’s insurance apprenticeship scheme in 2023, Ben has been backed all the way with guidance from experienced Catalyst colleagues and the expertise of The Wiser Academy, the company’s apprenticeship partner.

Thriving and developing talents

As a result of his hard work and success, Ben has now been promoted to Trainee Property Claims Handler, a well-earned next step in his growing career.

Catalyst Managing Director Brad Jackson has congratulated Ben on his achievement, presenting him with an Amazon gift voucher.

He said: “Ben has been a fantastic asset for our business from day one. He has also shown the ability and drive to have a great career as an insurance professional.

“We’re very pleased to have this opportunity to help him obtain his professional qualifications and give him an enjoyable workplace where he can continue to thrive and develop his talents.”

‘Excited by new role’ at Catalyst

Ben’s course work was managed through the Catalyst Training Academy, which provides training opportunities for the company’s teams and those of clients and other organisations across the insurance industry.

He passed three written examinations held over the two years, then achieved a distinction in a final one-to-one ‘end-point’ assessment by an independent assessor.

During the meeting, he was questioned for an hour about the contents of a portfolio Ben compiled to show the quality and breadth of his work since joining Catalyst.

Ben Thomas said: “I worked very hard in the run-up to the assessment, so I was very pleased to do so well, and achieve my CII Certification. I’m now excited about moving on to my next role and continuing to develop my insurance career at Catalyst.

“Catalyst has been a great place to learn and grow. This is my first job in what can become a long-term career and I want to do well. It’s a good foundation, and everyone at Catalyst has been very helpful.”

Diligence and excellent service

To help him prepare for his CII certification exam, Ben was given two hours a day for revision over a two week period, and could ask advice from experienced work colleagues at any time.

This structured support gave him confidence to succeed in a rigorous curriculum that included insurance law and regulations, customer service, underwriting practices, and the role of independent regulatory bodies.

Catalyst Business Improvement Manager Yvonne Bardsley said: “We’ve never doubted Ben’s commitment. He has been diligent in his studies, helped by a fantastic support structure within the operational management team.

“Ben’s success epitomises Catalyst’s desire to attract bright and motivated people into the insurance claims industry and support them with training to deliver excellent service for our clients and their customers.”
