Drainage Responsibility

Drains and sewers in domestic and commercial premises are often out of sight and out of mind. When they go wrong they can cause major inconvenience, health risks and structural problems to homes and business premises.

It’s important to know who is responsible for drainage pipes to avoid unnecessary delays to repairs. Our teams will advise our customers whether a blockage or repair problem needs to be dealt with by themselves or the water utility company. Catalyst will liaise with the utility company on your behalf, ensuring that all the information they need is given to them so the drain problem can be resolved as quickly as possible.

The above illustration shows who is responsible for public sewers, lateral drains and drains, depending on the property type.

The above illustration shows the correct way that waste water and surface water are removed from a property. The waste water (eg from toilets) must be removed via a separate pipe to surface water (eg from drain pipes).
