Sewer coding training gives Catalyst insurance clients the edge

Staff coding training 6

No one said sewer coding was easy.

With early spring sunshine streaming in, claims handlers at Catalyst Services UK have been refreshing and further developing the skills needed to analyse drainage survey reports.

Colleagues at Catalyst receive regular technical training, including on WRc drain investigation and repair standards, so they are best able to support insurance clients and assist their claims customers.

Best technical advice

Operations Director Paul Duddle, who led the training session at Catalyst’s HQ in Delph, Greater Manchester, said: “Regular technical training like this is what defines the quality of our services.

“Our claims handlers develop the expertise they need to properly validate technical CCTV drainage reports so we provide our insurance clients and their customers with the best technical advice.

“This ensures work is only scoped and carried out if it is needed, it speeds up the delivery of remediation, and ensures it is carried out cost-effectively to a high standard, so problems don’t reoccur.”

The training was carried out under the aegis of the Catalyst Training Academy, which delivers courses covering a range of topics related to belowground services, for Catalyst teams, clients and other insurance industry professionals.

Correct course of action

On this occasion, the Catalyst colleagues were being trained to use two drainage industry reference books published by the WRc (Water Research Centre) – the WRc Drainage Repair Book (4th edition) and the WRc Manual of Sewer Condition Classification (5th edition).

CCTV drainage survey technicians use the codes to identify key issues in their survey reports, for example, whether and how drain and sewer pipes are blocked or damaged.

Accurate analysis of these reports is vital to establish the correct course of action to address the problems with drainage systems that have triggered a potential insurance claim.

Catalyst delivers services on behalf of insurance companies and loss adjustors to investigate and resolve claims made by domestic and commercial customers about their drainage systems.

As most drainage systems, whether connected to main sewers or off-mains drainage systems, are hidden from sight below ground, accurate validation of survey reports is essential.

Catalyst’s other services include water supply pipe investigation and repair or replacement, leak detection, and home emergency response.
